A 10-Point Plan for Appliances (Without Being Overwhelmed)

Air Compressors and How They Function

Air compressors are necessary for different industries as they are used in automation and assembly, agriculture and construction and also in chemical manufacturing. The primary task of an air compressor is to convert the power from an external source mainly diesel engines and electric motors to stored energy which is released in the form of pressured air. The pressurized air is then transferred where it is used to power tools and machinery. When selecting the compressor to purchase, there is the need to be keen as they are costly equipment and any mistake will cost the company huge amount of finances. The compressors that are available in the market vary in terms of their operation methods, level of pressure that they are capable of delivering and their air capacity. As much as one pays attention to the ability of the compressor to deliver air at high pressure and also the capacity of the air that they deliver, one also needs to identify the cost of purchasing a particular air compressor and also the durability of the equipment.

Based on their method of operation, there are three types of industrial compressors that one can purchase in the market. The first kind of compressor is the reciprocating compressors which are categorized as positive displacement compressors. In positive displacement compressors, the volume of the air is reduced using pumps which are driven using pistons which are attached to cylinders that compress and also displace the air where the released of has high pressure as a result of the reduced volume. The reciprocating compressors are further divided into direct drive compressors and the belt drive compressors where the belt-drive compressors are preferred due to their high output and durability. Due to their portability and their effectiveness the reciprocating compressors are recommendable for the building traders.

The second kind of air compressors, which also function as positive displacement compressors, are the rotary screw air compressors. The rotary screw compressors operate using helical screws and are smoother than the pistons thus less surges and vibration than the case of reciprocating compressors. One can also decide to purchase the rotary screw compressors as they are easier to maintain and are also durable and in comparison with the reciprocating compressors they have larger air capacity. Some have variable speeds meaning that one controls the airflow and they are used in construction sites, factories and hospitals.

The third kind if the air compressors that one can buy is the centrifugal compressors which depend on the momentum from a rotating disk to transfer and pressurize air. They are capable of delivering extremely high pressures which are controlled by way of inlet guide vanes. They are used in refrigerators, automotive and air conditioners.
